Apedroc Stud is a boutique thoroughbred stud farm in the heart of rural Sussex. The property is set in over 100 acres of paddocks and ancient woodland, complemented by a full suite of modern equestrian facilities. Our approach is to focus on a small number of elite mares and proven stallions.
The stud benefits from carefully maintained, high quality, pasture. The undulating terrain provides excellent strengthening and conditioning for young race horses.
We work with high quality veterinary, nutritional, farriery and Bloodstock professionals with expertise specific to the racing industry.
We bring longstanding backgrounds in equestrianism across racing, polo and cross country, together with successful international commercial credentials. Our stud manager also has over twenty years experience in equestrian management over a full range of disciplines.
We have a hands-on approach, delivering tailored individual care. From birth our youngsters are well-handled and rapidly become accustomed to a varied and colourful life. We believe that this combination genuinely means that they are "Reared to be Feared".

In keeping with our premium ethos, Apedroc is also home to a selection of exotic animals. To improve our grazing we keep rare breed sheep, who perform a vital task in ridding our paddocks of harmful worms. We have a small but exquisite flock of pedigree Swiss Valais Black Nose, several satanic Hebrideans, and some very wayward Soays.
To prepare our young racehorses fully for the unexpected, we also keep a flock of rheas, several wallabies, peacocks and rare breed pigs. All these creatures breed energetically and we occasionally have offspring for sale, if we can catch them.
We are keen trail hunting and cross country enthusiasts having excellent training terrain on the Ashdown Forest. We occasionally have Irish hunting horses for sale.
Apedroc Stud is owned by Neil Goldie-Scot and Clare Salmon who founded it following their wedding in 2015, an event at Goodwood House where the best man was their racehorse, Secret Missile.
Neil enjoyed a successful career as a leading international investment banker. He turned his hand to breeding racehorses following several years as an unconventional polo player and racehorse owner. He is also the Treasurer of national charity Riding for the Disabled and a Conservator of the Ashdown Forest.
Clare had a colourful international career as a strategist and marketeer featuring on the boards of a diverse selection of businesses ranging from RSA plc to ITV. Her final executive role was as the CEO of the British Equestrian Federation where she was in charge of the British equestrian teams at the Rio Olympics and Paralympics. She is currently a non-executive director of a number of financial services companies. A former racing cyclist and polo player, Clare came to love racing after participating three times in the Magnolia Cup at Glorious Goodwood under the stern tutelage of unique trainer, Gary Moore.
